Twist Trips: Iceland

ICELAND: SOUTH COAST

If you’ve picked this year as your year of adventure, then there are few places as perfect to pursue those travel dreams as Iceland. The land of Fire and Ice is simply magical. Where else in the world can you hike on a glacier, discover an ice cave, walk on a still warm volcano or bathe in an outdoor hot pool while the snow falls… all in the same day?

If this sounds like the kind of trip you have been dreaming about, then join us for a Twist Trips five-day tour of some of Iceland’s most unforgettable sights. Starting and ending in the capital Reykjavik, this tour will showcase some of the country’s most popular places as well as take you off the beaten path to destinations where only the locals go.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ON THIS TWIST TRIP?

We have only 9 spots available on Twist Trip: Iceland, plus your Twist Hosts, Keryn, Claudia and Katja. We will also have our local expert on the ground in Iceland. We want to keep this group small so that we can experience the magic of Iceland together, enjoy dining as a group, and have fun while traveling.

HOTEL ROOMS AND GUEST HOUSES

All rooms are double occupancy, meaning you will be sharing with another woman. If you book with a friend, you can room with her. If you are traveling solo, you will be paired up with someone. Single occupancy is available for an additional $750 (total trip cost US$4000).

DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

Please let us know ASAP if you have any allergies or food intolerances. We will do our best to accommodate. Lamb, shellfish and dairy are a major part of the Icelandic diet. There are several grocery stores in Reykjavik if you need to grab snacks and supplement your meals before we head south, where options may be more limited.

Remember: you are your best advocate and must be vigilant when traveling with a group.

Keryn Means • Editor-In-Chief

Keryn is a passionate traveler who first visited Iceland with her family right before her youngest turned 2 years old (free to fly!) in search of the Northern Lights. While they didn’t catch those dancing lights in the sky, she did get a taste for this magical land that would call her back again in August 2019 to explore the WestFjords. It was here that she did see the Aurora Borealis, which was pretty mind blowing, but even better, she solidified two friendship with her fellow travelers… and decided she wanted to include more people in this magical adventure she had set out on. Through food, time in the car, cozy guesthouses, and maybe a bit of the local gin (ask Keryn about the best gin in Iceland when you see her. She is sure to have a bottle or two for you to taste.), she knows you will fall in love with this often misunderstood island nation that has so much more than pretty waterfalls.

Katja Gaskell • European Editor

After years of having Iceland on her travel wish list, Katja has managed to visit the magical land of Fire and Ice twice in the last two years….and she can’t wait to go back! As well as the waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and other geographical marvels, she’s really looking forward to trying more Icelandic food. The meals that she enjoyed when exploring the Westfjords last year, were some of the best she’s ever had. When not traveling, Katja and her family live in London, U.K.

Claudia Laroye • Contributing Editor

Claudia Laroye is a curious and adventurous traveler based in Vancouver, Canada. While living in Sweden as an exchange student during the late 1980s, she came THIS CLOSE to visiting Iceland during her year abroad. As such, she’s extra excited to finally be exploring Iceland for the first time on this trip, along with other ladies who may also be first timers. She’s also keen to continue her gin exploration around the world, as Keryn has convinced her that – along with the amazing landscape – Icelandic gin is worth traveling for.
