Figuring out what to pack for London with kids seems to stress parents out. While I tend to pack our everyday clothing, some parents buy an entirely new wardrobe to account for the weather and different styles in Europe.
Now, I’m not against a good, old-fashion shopping spree. My husband will be the first to admit that I run out to refresh my wardrobe every time we go to Europe. This isn’t because we are going to Europe. No, I just like to use it as an excuse to refill my closet. I like clothing and new shoes. Sue me.
The first thing you need to know about packing for a trip to London is that Brits dress just like you and I.
They do wear jeans, sneakers, cute boots and tops. Europeans do tend to dress up more than Americans, so pack more of your nice tops, but remember to stay comfortable.
If you plan to be walking all over the city, for all that is good and holy, do not wear heels! Pack those cute street sneakers (we LOVE these and swear by them in Europe) and flat boots you’ve already broken in (these are the ones we wear every trip). Pull out those comfy skinny jeans you love and buy three more pairs. Mix and match a few tops, throw in a few accessories and you’ll be good to go.
What to Wear in London (for the ladies)
Just as I suggested you prioritize bright colors when packing for a trip to Ireland, you will want to pack those same shades for London too. London can be downright dreary at times. A bright jacket and umbrella can easily shift your mood. It won’t be as frustrating sightseeing in the rain if you’re prepared with a cute outfit.
Here’s what you should pack in a carry-on suitcase (this is our favorite) for a quick trip to London.
- 1 pair of Jeans
- 3 tops
- 1 pair good shoes
- Altra sneakers (they have a waterproof version too!)
- Josef Seibel sneakers
- Flat Boots (LOVE these)
- Puffer Jacket (I swear by this one)
- Rain Coat
- 3 Socks
- 3 Underwear
- A pair of Pajamas
- Hat
- Gloves/ mittens
- 1 Curling Iron (read THIS before you plug it in though!)
- A pairs of earrings
- 2 scarves
- 1 purse with a zipper (one more prevention against pick pockets)

What to pack for London with kids
Packing for a weekend in London with kids will be easier than figuring out what to bring for yourself. Jeans, warm layers and shoes that are multi-functional work well. Pack those colorful t-shirts, but keep it simple. When all else fails, there is always an H&M or Zara to pop into when you need to grab something to supplement their wardrobe.

- 4 pairs of socks

- Rain coat (insulated if possible. We have this one.)
- 1 pair of mittens
- 2 pairs of shoes (sneakers and one waterproof shoe, like these)
What to pack for London with your significant other
If you are bringing a husband or significant other on this trip, well, I’m not sure I can help you there. Hopefully, you have married an adult who can pack him or herself. My husband has a uniform of jeans or cargo pants and t-shirts.
I’ve been with him for over 18 years and he has never diverged from this uniform and he isn’t about to stop just because we head back to London for the fifth time. He’s just excited that more Europeans are sporting facial hair so he isn’t the odd man out with the goatee anymore (yes, he has had that for 18 years as well).
My advice, make sure your significant other is comfortable. If you force him or her to be something they aren’t when they travel, no one will have a good time. Just make sure they pack their toothbrush and deodorant. As we found in Japan, it is really hard to find deodorant in Kyoto and a few other countries!
